— About this chord
C11 (1-3-5-♭7-9-11), typically voiced without the clashing major 3rd, has a suspended, open, and modern quartal color that floats rather than resolves. A staple of funk and gospel comping, it works well as a static groove chord or as a rich substitute for a plain C7sus4, layering the 9th and 11th for extra harmonic depth. On guitar it's commonly played as a compact shell voicing on the middle strings, or moved to a low-string barre-ish grip further up the neck. Frequently used in modal vamps, gospel turnarounds, and funk grooves where a floating, unresolved dominant color is wanted. Also searched as Cdom11 or C eleventh.
