— About this chord
B11 (1–3–5–♭7–9–11) blends dominant seventh color with a floating lift from the natural 11th, giving it a bright, open, gospel-funk shimmer. Heard often in funk, gospel, and modal jazz vamps, it also works as a soft, ambiguous dominant in soul ballads. On guitar it's an easy open-position voicing anchored by the open B and E strings, keeping the 3rd for a fuller 1-3-5-♭7-9-11 stack rather than the common 9sus4-style 11 voicing; keyboardists stack it for wide, airy comping. Functions as V11, adding color and forward pull in vamping grooves. Also searched as Bdom11, B11th.
