— About this chord

G13 (1-3-5-b7-9-13): a lush, rolling dominant chord that stacks the whole upper-structure on top of the G7 sound. The 13th (E) adds a bright, major-6th shimmer over the bluesy b7, making this a favorite closing chord in big-band voicings, blues shuffles, and funk horn-style comping. Common as the IV or turnaround chord in jazz-blues progressions, and as a richer substitute anywhere a plain G7 would do. Also searched as Gdom13, G dominant 13.
