— About this chord

C#7b5 (C# dominant 7 flat 5) lowers the 5th of a dominant chord for a whole-tone, off-kilter tension often used as a tritone-substitution color. A jazz comping staple, it adds an unstable, floating quality to ii-V-I turnarounds and works interchangeably with G7b5 (its tritone-substitution twin, sharing all four notes). Movable grips make it easy to slot into chromatic voice-leading. Also searched as C#dom7b5, Db7b5, D♭7b5.
