— About this chord
Cm11 (1-♭3-5-♭7-9-11) is a lush, floating minor extension prized in neo-soul and R&B for its warm, dreamy ambiguity — the 11th blends with the minor 3rd for a soft, cloud-like harmony. A go-to chord for smooth, jazzy grooves and gospel-tinged neo-soul vamps, it's often used as a rich static i chord or as the ii in extended minor ii-V progressions. On guitar the classic voicing is a full barre shape borrowed from the open Em11 grip, easy to slide anywhere on the neck. Common in D'Angelo- and Robert Glasper-style keyboard-guitar interplay, giving ballads and slow grooves a warm, sophisticated glow. Also searched as Cmin11 or C minor eleventh.
