A#dim

Diminished

About this chord

A#dim (A# diminished, also written A#° or B♭dim) has a tense, uneasy, noir mood—dark, suspenseful, and claustrophobic, great for eerie or dramatic moments. Favored in jazz harmony and film score suspense, it also slips into classical and progressive rock for color. On guitar it’s a movable, compact voicing—not beginner-friendly—often used as a leading-tone color or passing chord. Functionally it builds sharp tension that resolves to B or B minor, or acts as a pivot in chromatic voice-leading and turnaround patterns.
